As you might have imagined, players will be able to scale the ranks of their respective factions, unlocking powerful new rewards for themselves. You will do this by gaining experience points (Knowledge) from missions, special events, and killing enemy players. Every rank is determined by their own Knowledge level, and players will be promoted automatically upon breaching the next rank's threshold. The ranks, and their Knowledge levels, are:
Cadet: - Lieutenant: 1,000 K Lieutenant Captain: 1,500 K Captain: 2,000 K Major: 2,500 K Lieutenant Colonel: 3,000 K Colonel: 3,500 K Brigadier Admiral: 4,000 K Major Admiral: 4,500+ K
Ranks on presumed lives will not only determine what level of mobile suits your character will be able to pilot, but also how much control your character has over certain situations. (an example would be that a cadet can only handle a Low Tier C rank mobile suits, while a Lieutenant could handle a more customized C ranked mobile suit.) Higher ranking pilots will be able to control larger units (both PC and NPC), as well subject to better rewards in special events.
__________
While not all missions or special events will be apart of the global plot, the majority of them will be (in some shape or form). Because of this, you won't see too many missions that are completely random or pointless; that isn't what we're striving for here at PL. However, that doesn't mean that every mission will be some top of the line danger zone, or conflict-based operation.
Missions will vary from full on assaults of enemy bases, to scouting, to resource materials and scrap recovery. These will be designated by either a C, B, or A rank. Regardless of what you're doing, nine times out of ten, it'll be progressing the story in some way. We feel that this will help everyone feel significant, even if they're not in the major event of the century.
C-rank missions yield a reward of 50 K and 5,000 credits. B-rank missions will yield a reward of 75 K and 10,000 credits. A-rank missions will yield a reward of 100 K and 15,000 credits. It should be noted that difficult of the mission can scale based on a number of factors, such as: the player's rank; the number of players participating; and the mission's rank.
Furthermore, being as how players are likely to engage other pilots on their missions, killing or defeating enemy pilots (both on missions and out of missions) will net you a bonus 100 K per victory.

Now. There might be some people who wanna start out as mercenaries. That is alright, but you will need to understand that you will have disadvantages over the Factions. The first problem will be your mobile suit, will be a hand-me-down suit, with damage associated with the unit once you choose one. Now what I mean by damage simply means that 1/2 of the mobile suit's starting HP will be gone.
And all damage done to the suit is upgraded by this suit by 100 damage points. Now this effect wears off after an OOC week when you start. I'll also described in what condition the suit will be in, but as a trade off. It'll cost 1/2 the price of repairs for repairs, and Mercenaries will start off with more customization slots on weaker mobile suits.
